Edama is an innovative company based at KAUST in western Saudi Arabia that has devised a solution to the severe organic waste problem that has been plaguing the country. Saudi Arabia has been known to be one of the top contributors to food waste, while simultaneously having limited arable land and scarce water resources. Therefore, Edama seeks to improve the entire food system, from production to consumption, by reducing organic waste in landfills and enhancing the productivity of the agricultural sector. In order to achieve this, the Edama team is comprised of members with varied skillsets, ranging from agricultural science, engineering, economics, and communications. This allows them to take a comprehensive approach to the interconnected and intricate issues of food waste, sustainability, and agricultural productivity.
